Preventing Slips Trips and Falls

A QPANI Initiative

T he purpose of this on-line information initiative is to direct QPANI Members and others to advice and guidance that will assist all persons involved in organising, planning and managing work related activities to eliminate and reduce the risk of injury from slips, trips and falls. The information contained within this resource is provided and gathered from a wide range of organisations and highlights both good and bad practice scenarios.

QPANI would encourage all members to adopt 'best practice' approaches to ensure the safety of all persons working in our industry. This document is not a definitive guide.

Slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of major injuries at work and specifically within our own quarry products industry. In Northern Ireland slips, trips and falls were the cause of 25% of all accidents (HSENI Annual Report). They occur in almost all workplaces, 95% of major slips result in broken bones and they can also be the initial cause for a range of other accident types such as falls form height.
